Thursday, I woke up feeling blah. I figured once I got to work, I would be okay. By 11 am, I was at the doctor's office. Chest cold. I took the afternoon off. We were to leave for Oklahoma (Memaw's 80th birthday party) at 9 pm. Thankfully our flight was too full, so we rebooked for the morning. My temp was 103 and I needed some rest.
We headed out early the next morning. We finally got to Oklahoma ~ where I stayed in my jacket or under 4 blankets all day. I met Andy and his family for dinner (to celebrate his birthday). We got back to my parents and went to bed. The next morning, Saturday, we got up and drove to Arkansas. We saw so many relatives and friends. As I talked with people, I noticed Payton and Andy slowing down more and more. I finally ask them to rest in my parent's hotel room while Emma and I mingled. I checked on them, and they both had fevers. Nothing like being out of town and sick. I drove my little family back to my parent's house, so we could sleep in a familiar place.
Sunday morning offered no relief. We all still felt blah, and Emma now had a low grade fever. We decided to leave on the 6 pm flight. At 4, I noticed Payton lying on the floor ~ not moving around, not smiling. This is something I have seen one too many times, so I took his temp again ... 104.5! I immediately started crying. I started making phone calls ~ and then Andy and I headed out with Payton for the ER. We got there at 5 pm. They gave him some medicine to calm the fever while we waited. Four hours later, they finally called us back. They ran a few tests: Positive nasal result + questionable spot on x-ray = flu and pneumonia.
I finally pulled into my parent's drive at 1:30 am. We flew home late last night. Today, we all stayed home and slept. We did take kids to doctor to do follow up ~ all four of us have the flu.
A few things I learned about the flu:
1. It is a lung infection. It is not vomiting, etc.
2. If you catch it in the first two days, medication can be given to help stop it faster. Emma and Payton both are on the medication.
